Inspection of Heating and Air Conditioning Systems

Inspection of heating and air conditioning systems aims to improve the energy efficiency of the systems through recommendations made by the inspector.

Heating and air conditioning systems with an effective rated output of more than 70 kW must be inspected every five years. Inspections may not be required where an automation and control system has been installed or where the system is covered by an energy performance contract, by an agreed energy performance requirement or by assigning the operation of the system to an operator or a network operator. Optionally, power systems of less than 70 kW may also be inspected.

The procedure for the inspection of heating and air conditioning systems is laid down in the ‘Guide for the Inspection of Heating and Air Conditioning Systems’ issued by the Energy Service.

Inspection of air conditioning systems is carried out by air conditioning system inspectors, and inspection of heating systems is carried out by heating system inspectors. In any case, the inspector delivers an inspection report to the building owner, which records the inspector’s proposals for improving the performance of the system and/or part thereof.
